Bhubaneswar is the capital of Odisha. The city is popularly known as City of Temples and it is famous for its rich ancient heritage, especially its historic monumental temple. Bhubaneswar has been known as Nagar Kalinga, Kalinga Nagar, Toshali, Ekamra Kanan, Mandira Malini Nagar also. This city is lively, green, and clean, with a rich cultural life, and it has scenic views. The modern city of Bhubaneswar was designed by the German architect Otto Konigsberger in 1946.

Bhubaneswar is famous for its Odissi dance form. The Odissi dance originated in Odisha. Odissi is considered by some historians as an offshoot of the Hindustani Classical music of northern India- although the two are quite distinct from each other.

Odisha is famous for Rath Yatra{Car Festivals}, and being a part of Odisha, Bhubaneswar is famous for Ashokastami. In this festival, Lord Shiva{Lingaraj} of the Lingaraj Temple is taken to the Mausima temple in a highly decorated temple car procession.
Transport in Bhubaneswar
The OSRTC[Odisha State Road Transport Corporation] head office is located in Bhubaneswar. From state government buses to private operator-run buses, all can be found here. Bhubaneswar connects to Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and other neighboring states. For local transport, Auto rickshaws and cycle rickshaws are also present.
Other than buses and cars, Bhubaneswar is connected with railways and airports also. There are five railway stations located in this city; Mancheswar, Vani Vihar, Patia, Bhubaneswar Station and Lingaraj Temple Road. The East coast railway has its headquarters based here. The Biju Patnaik airport is located 3 km away from the city and now upgraded to an international airport connecting the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
